Students attending UTC Sheffield City Centre study a combination of GCSEs and A Levels alongside a technical qualification in their chosen specialism.

The specialisms offered are:

Key Stage 4 

KS4 students at UTC Sheffield City Centre study GCSE Mathematics, English Language, English Literature and Sciences (Biology, Physics and Chemistry leading to GCSE combined or triple science) over a three year period, along with a suite of up to three technical qualifications in their chosen specialism. Students also choose additional GCSEs.

The timetable features allocated lesson time for Careers Information, Advice and Guidance, Citizenship, PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education and RE), Sports and Physical Education, alongside time for independent study and a choice of interesting and varied enrichment activities.

Employer-based projects are embedded into curriculum qualifications to develop business and employability skills.

Overall, this balanced curriculum offer provides a well-rounded education designed to build students’ skills, knowledge, confidence and judgement to equip them for successful progression whatever their interests.

GCSE Options:
Students select one from the following GCSEs to study alongside their core subjects and technical specialism:

  • Art
  • Geography
  • Product Design
  • For some students a Modern Foreign Language may be available during enrichment time

Plus all students will study for the Certificate in Digital Applications.

Taking the English Baccalaureate is an option for those who choose Geography and a Modern Foreign Language during enrichment.

Key Stage 5

At Key Stage 5, students study a Level 3 technical qualification alongside one, two or three A Levels, depending on a student’s ambitions. The offer is flexible to enable successful progression onto top quality university courses, advanced or higher apprenticeships, or directly into employment.

  • English Language
  • Maths
  • Further Maths (if you are taking Maths)
  • Photography
  • Physics
  • Product Design
  • Level 3 Core Maths
  • Level 3 Extended Project Options
  • GCSE English, Maths and Science resits

There are opportunities for students to choose A Levels at our other campus such as Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science and Psychology. We may also offer a Level 2 bridging the gap year at Post-16, which provides a step up to Level 3 qualifications. For advice please attend one of our open evenings.

Entry Requirements

Students wishing to apply for a Year 12 place at UTC Sheffield must meet the following entry requirements:

  • 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 or above or A*-C or equivalent, including Maths and English (those applying for Engineering or Health Sciences will also need a minimum of a 4+ in Science)
  • Grade 6 at GCSE for A Level subjects
  • Level 2 options are also available at both UTCs; students wishing to apply for this option will need 4 GCSE passes at Grade 3 or equivalent, including English and Maths.
